3 Things I Think I Think
SI's fearless NFL expert opines on all the latest news, buzz and inside information surrounding players and teams from around the league. This is just a taste.
1 I think there is no good reason why Michael Vick (below) should not be reinstated to play in the NFL. None. But I would do one thing as a final wrist slap if I were Roger Goodell: suspend Vick for the first four games of 2009 for lying on at least three occasions to his employer (Arthur Blank and other club executives) and Goodell about his involvement in dogfighting.
2 I think the August story in Miami could be second-round pick Pat White passing Chad Henne on the depth chart ... with an asterisk. It's possible that the QB depth chart in September could read Chad Pennington one, White two and Henne three, even though Henne would be the clear No. 2 if Pennington went down for any length of time. The Dolphins could have more use for White to play in odd formations like the Wildcat than they'd have for Henne.
3 I think the news that the NFL salary cap will jump to $128 million in 2009 from the projected $123 million won't be much of a factor. From the looks of the cap sheets, only one team, Kansas City, will have to spend more than it wanted to get to the 86.4 percentile of the salary cap floor. The Chiefs are $31.1 million under the cap, without any incumbents to spend the money on because none have proved themselves to the new administration.
