THE SENIOROPENS

FamiliarGround

This week'sSenior British makes a rare trip inland to Sunningdale Golf Club in southernEngland, which hosted the European Open from 1982 to '92. Seven of the playerswho won that event will tee it up—Manuel Pinero ('82), Isao Aoki ('83), GordonBrand Jr. ('84), Bernhard Langer ('85), Greg Norman ('86), Ian Woosnam ('88)and Nick Faldo ('92). Will their past success give them an advantage? It didn'thurt Tom Watson at Turnberry. Unfortunately for old Tom, he's never won atSunningdale or at Crooked Stick in Carmel, Ind., where he'll join hiscontemporaries in next week's U.S. Senior Open.

King ofBritain

At Turnberry,Watson missed tying Harry Vardon for most British Open victories, but if youinclude the three Senior British Opens that Watson has won, he already holdsthe record for most Open titles in the Kingdom.
