Things I Think I Think

SI's fearless NFL expert ponders all the latest news, buzz and inside information. This is just a taste of what you'll get online.

1 I think the first play of QB Mark Sanchez's NFL career is one he'll remember for a while—a 48-yard bomb to David Clowney against the Rams called by coordinator Brian Schottenheimer while Jets fans were still filing in from the parking lot. "Afterward, I was joking with Schottenheimer," said Sanchez (below). "'Coach, I'm coming off the bench cold and shooting three-pointers. What's the deal?'"

2 I think it won't matter what kind of performance the Broncos get out of Kyle Orton if their defense plays as badly as it did against the 49ers last week. Yes, it's preseason. But 14-of-18 passing by San Francisco's Shaun Hill, Alex Smith and Damon Huard? And 30 carries by the Niners for a 4.5-yard average? Not good.

3 I think one of Michael Vick's biggest regrets, at least when it comes to his football career, is that because of his jail sentence and two years away from the game, he never got to play for Bobby Petrino in Atlanta. He thinks he would have been a perfect match for Petrino's power-spread offense and that they could have won a Super Bowl together.
