Julia Caseres

UNION, N.J. > Soccer

Caseres, a sophomore at New Jersey City, had 10 goals and seven assists over a recent four-game span, including four goals and two assists in the Scarlet Raider Women's Soccer Classic to win MVP. Then last Saturday she scored a hat trick in a 5--1 win over Rutgers-Newark, ending her school's 103-game New Jersey Athletic Conference losing streak.

Vinny Giles

RICHMOND > Golf

Giles, 66, won the U.S. Senior Amateur, 1 up, over John Grace, becoming only the second golfer to win the U.S. Amateur (1972) and Senior Amateur titles. Giles set a record for most years between USGA championships (37). He also won the British Amateur in 1975 and was on three victorious U.S. Walker Cup teams.

Stephanie Preach

PHOENIX > Volleyball

Stephanie, a senior setter at Xavier College Prep, averaged 17.8 assists and 3.6 kills as the Gators went 9--0 to win the Westwood Tournament of Champions for the second year in a row. She was the Class 4A-5A player of the year in 2007 and '08 after leading the Gators to the Class 5A title each year.

Deon Randall

SAN DIEGO > Football

Deon, a senior quarterback and defensive back at Francis Parker School, rushed for 182 yards (including 86 on a touchdown run), passed for 140 yards and another TD, and made an interception as the Lancers beat St. Margaret's Episcopal School 28--20, snapping what was California's longest active winning streak (44 games).

Ashton Chatelain

DESTREHAN, LA. > Powerlifting

Ashton, a junior at Destrehan High, won the super heavyweight class for 16- and 17-year-olds at the Amateur World Powerlifting Congress world championships, breaking her own age-division world record in the deadlift (402.2 pounds). She will compete at the WPC world championships in Bournemouth, England, in November.

Nathan Sherr

LYNNFIELD, MASS. > Football

Sherr, a sophomore running back at Massachusetts Maritime Academy, broke the school's single-game rushing record with 325 yards in a 49--27 win over MIT. He scored three touchdowns, one on a 95-yard carry, matching the longest run in school history. The victory snapped a 12-game losing streak for the Buccaneers.
