LEADING OFF

Duck, Everyone

The 88-by-56-foot image of Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli loomed over the crowd at Autzen Stadium in Eugene last Saturday before the Ducks took on USC. Masoli threw for 222 yards and a TD and ran for 164 yards and another score as Pac-10 leader Oregon (7--1) dominated the Trojans (6--2) 47--20.

Line of Duty

Phillies leftfielder Raul Ibañez bent over to field a double by the Yankees' Nick Swisher during the fifth inning of Game 3 of the World Series last Saturday in Philadelphia. Swisher scored one of three runs that inning to give New York a 5--3 lead, and the Yankees went on to win 8--5 (page 42).

Shaq-a-Hack

The Cavaliers' new center, Shaquille O'Neal, smothered Celtics forward Kevin Garnett below the rim during the teams' season opener in Cleveland on Oct. 27. Garnett scored 13 points and O'Neal 10 as Boston beat its Eastern Conference rival 95--89.

Lambeau Geste

Packers wide receiver Donald Driver (left) hugged his former quarterback, Brett Favre, after Favre led the Vikings to a 38--26 victory in Green Bay on Sunday. Favre completed 17 of 28 passes for 244 yards and four touchdowns in his first game at Lambeau Field in the uniform of the Packers' NFC North rivals. On first taking the field, he was booed by the fans who had cheered him during his 16 years with the Pack.
