Things I Think I Think
SI's fearless NFL expert opines on all the latest news, buzz and inside information. This is just a taste of what you'll get online.
1 I think I'd be stunned if the Eagles got rid of Donovan McNabb, but it's time for Philadelphia to start thinking seriously about it. Over the last eight quarters in Dallas, McNabb (below) was a D-plus quarterback at best, and it's not the first time he hasn't come up big when it mattered. The Eagles have a strong prospect behind McNabb in Kevin Kolb, and I think they owe it to the franchise to think long and hard about allowing the 25-year-old, who will be in his fourth season as a backup, to compete for the job.
2 I think the Patriots need a running back. A big-time running back. How much longer can Bill Belichick put up with the likes of Laurence Maroney, who fumbles on the goal line, rarely runs with abandon and can't keep blitzers off Tom Brady?
3 Mike Holmgren, I think you did the right thing with Eric Mangini. No coach of a bright-eyed team on a season-ending four-game winning streak, particularly in Cleveland, where there hadn't been a four-game winning streak since 1994, deserves to be fired.
