The number of golf rounds played in the U.S. in 2009 was down 1.1% from 2008, not surprising and not too bad considering the state of the economy. But that statistic doesn't tell the entire story. When the market is broken down into four categories of courses (below) it becomes clear that three of the segments were flat or only very slightly down, while the fourth segment dragged down the whole.
