Shelley Evans (in starred jersey), a 29-year-old from Scotts Valley, Calif., fell face-first during the women's scratch final of the track cycling world championships last Friday in Copenhagen, wiping out with several other riders. Evans did not finish and suffered a minor jaw injury, but she raced two days later. Led by Taylor Phinney and Sarah Hammer, who won golds in individual pursuit, the U.S. finished sixth in the five-day event.

Down and Dirty

Johns Hopkins midfielder Matt Dolente (in blue) and Virginia midfielder-attackman Garett Ince waged their own ground war during a face-off as the teams battled for the Doyle Smith Cup last Saturday in Charlottesville, Va. The top-ranked Cavaliers beat the No. 12 Blue Jays 15--6 and improved their record to 9--0.
