LEADING OFF
Water Fall
Brandon Johnson, running unattached, went headfirst into a water pit during the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Colorado Invitational in Boulder last Saturday. Amazingly, Johnson recovered and went on to finish the race in second place, behind Cameron Clayton of Colorado (3).
Foul Trip
Dodgers first baseman James Loney fell over the barrier and into the stands on April 5 while chasing a foul ball hit by Pirates third baseman Andy LaRoche in the seventh inning of a game in Pittsburgh. Loney was unhurt, but he missed the catch, and the Dodgers lost the game 11--5.
Parallel Parking
Jockey Brian Harding and his horse, Kilmackilloge, fell symmetrically last Thursday during the 4.20 Alder Hey Imagine Appeal Red Rum Handicap Chase, part of the Grand National Meeting at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool, England. Neither rider nor mount was harmed, but their race was over.
