"When I was four, my dad cut down an old nine-iron. I would swing that club in the front yard of my home. Nine-iron is still my favorite club."

ON THE NUMBER
Scrambling Recovery
The economy is rebounding, right? The market is up, unemployment has stabilized and consumer spending is on the rise. But the golf industry is experiencing some lag, and not the kind that makes your ball fly farther. Sales of woods, irons and balls are all down compared with 2009. Why? No one knows for sure, but one likely contributor is the weather. January and February were unusually bad across the country, and while March was good overall, it was unseasonably cold in the Southeast.
