Career Days

Last week

Mets centerfielder Angel Pagan becomes the first big leaguer in 55 years to initiate a triple play and hit an inside-the-park homer in the same game. In doing so, he joins the athletes below who have achieved multiple feats in a day's work.

1935

At the Big Ten Championships in Ann Arbor, Mich., Ohio State's Jesse Owens (above) matches the world record in the 100-yard dash (9.4 seconds) and sets new marks in the long jump (26'8¼"), 220-yard dash (20.3 seconds) and the 220-yard low hurdles (22.6 seconds)—all within 45 minutes.

1951

St. Louis native Doris Hart wins the Wimbledon singles, doubles and mixed doubles championships—all, due to rain delays, on the same day.

1988

In an 8--6 victory over the Devils, Penguins center Mario Lemieux scores goals in five ways: even strength, on a power play, shorthanded, on a penalty shot and into an empty net.
