Garrett Wittels

BAY HARBOR ISLAND, FLA. > Baseball

Wittels, a sophomore infielder at Florida International, extended his hitting streak to 54 games through Sunday, the second-longest in Division I history. (Robin Ventura of Oklahoma State set the record, 58, in 1987.) Wittels, who led the Panthers in hits (96) and RBIs (58) at week's end, won the Sun Belt batting title (.415) and was named conference player of the year.

Laura Gemmell

TORONTO > Squash

Gemmell, a freshman at Harvard, was named Ivy League freshman and player of the year after going 16--0 and winning the individual title in the top division at the College Squash Association championships. The 19-year-old All-America was one of five players selected to represent Canada at July's World University Championships in Melbourne.

Brittany Harrell

MCCOMB, MISS.> Track and Field

Brittany, a senior at McComb High, won the high jump (5'6") for the sixth consecutive year, and the 100-meter (14.37) and 300-meter (45.72) hurdles for the fifth straight year at the state Class 5A championships. Her time in the 100 hurdles broke a 22-year-old Mississippi record. Brittany will compete for Florida next year.

Patrick Cantlay

LOS ALAMITOS, CALIF. > Golf

Patrick, a senior at Servite High, shot a four-under 68 to defend his individual CIF--Southern Section title by four strokes and lead the Friars to their second-straight team championship. In four years he has helped Servite to a 94--6 record. Patrick, currently fourth in the American Junior Golf Association rankings, will attend UCLA in the fall.

Maegan Fontenot

ORANGE, TEXAS > Powerlifting

Maegan, a senior at Little Cypress Mauriceville High, won the state Class 4A 132-pound division with a three-lift total of 910 pounds, her third championship in a row after setting records at the 105-pound division in 2008 and at 123 in '09. She won the 132-pound varsity girls' division at the high school nationals in April and holds nine age-group world records.

Connor Winter

CENTENNIAL, COLO. > Track and Field

Connor, a junior at Arapahoe High, swept the distance events at the state Class 5A championships, the first athlete to do so in at least 60 years, according to the Colorado High School Activities Association. Connor won the 800 meters (1:52.56), the 1,600 (4:22.52) and the 3,200 (9:17.17). He finished second at the 5A cross-country meet last fall.
