Wheels Up

Mike Conway flipped into the fence above the restraining wall after colliding with Ryan Hunter-Reay (37) on the final lap of Sunday's Indianapolis 500 (page 50). Conway's car came apart, but the driver pod remained intact; Conway suffered a broken left leg and a compression fracture in his back. Hunter-Reay was not seriously hurt.

Shot in The Dark

Cody Stumpenhaus's 'do didn't let him see his heave during the shot put competition at the Oregon high school track and field championships in Eugene last Friday. A junior from Class 4A Brookings-Harbor High, Stumpenhaus finished ninth. Jefferson Jarvis of Hidden Valley High won the title.

Bedeviling Presence

Duke defenseman C.J. Costabile did plenty of damage in the NCAA lacrosse title game in Baltimore on Monday. He got in—and on—the head of Notre Dame's Kelly McKenna, then scored the game-winning goal five seconds into overtime to give the Blue Devils a 6--5 victory. It was the lowest-scoring championship game ever—and the first men's lacrosse title for Duke.
