"I put a new putter in action at Quail Hollow, and I've made a lot of putts. Of course, I have to give it a pep talk at times."

ON THE NUMBER
Springlike Effect
Through the first three months of 2010, sales of golf equipment in the U.S. lagged behind '09 levels (ON THE NUMBER, May 17), but April proved to be a breakthrough month. With weather around the country improving, golf ball sales jumped in number sold (chart below) and in dollars, going from a total value of $43,377,000 in April '09 to $44,372,000. The average price per dozen did drop slightly, from $27.82 to $27.20, but no one is complaining.
