Sand Storm

Jeff Nygaard (left) and Eyal Zimet rose to contest a ball on Saturday during the AVP's Long Beach Open; Nygaard and Matt Olson beat Zimet and Mike Morrison in three sets in a tournament that was played under a cloud, as the AVP scrambled to find investors and avert a shutdown of the season.

Loop Dreams

Four-time world aerobatic champion John Heiney did a loop at 4,000 feet over the Lost River Valley in Idaho during a demonstration at the King Mountain Hang Gliding Championships last Saturday. A pilot needs to reach a dive speed of about 80 mph to be able to pull through a full loop on a hang glider.
