ON THE NUMBER

Moment of Impact

Estimating the economic impact that hosting a major championship has on a particular region is part art and part science because it involves not only accounting but also estimations, multipliers and regional variables. The chart shows that even during hard times, the PGA Championship provides a serious economic lift, and that after a dip the level of impact is recovering quickly. This year's event is expected to equal the tournament's '04 visit to Wisconsin.
