Eddie Swanson

NASHVILLE > Powerlifting

Swanson, a 50-year-old personal trainer, set a national power curl record (160 pounds) in the 198-pound, 50-to-59-year-old division at the World Natural Powerlifting Federation Nationals. He qualified for the world tournament of champions in November. Last February, Swanson was outstanding lifter at the Tennessee championships.

Jane Croson

LAKEWOOD, CALIF. > Volleyball

Jane, a senior at Los Alamitos High, partnered with Summer Ross to defeat a Russian team (21--10, 18--21, 15--7) in the final of the U-19 beach world championships in Porto, Portugal, and become the first U.S. pair to win the title. Three weeks earlier, as a junior national team member, Jane was MVP of the NORCECA junior continental championship.

Cassy Isagawa

WAILUKU, HAWAII > Golf

Cassy, a senior at Baldwin High, won the Junior PGA Championship over Florida's Ginger Howard in a three-hole playoff after the two finished tied through 54 holes. The victory earned Cassy, the 2010 Hawaii high school champion, a spot on the U.S. Junior Ryder Cup team. In July she won a second Hawaii junior title.

Jerad Curry

BUFORD, GA. > Baseball

Jerad, a senior catcher at Mill Creek High, was named MVP of the Junior Sunbelt Classic tournament after leading Team Georgia to a 5--4 win over Tennessee in the final. In 10 games he batted .483, with 13 RBIs and five home runs, including one in the title game. As a junior at Mill Creek, Jerad tied for the team lead with 11 homers and 11 doubles.

Tanelle Berard

CLIVE, IOWA > Triathlon

Tanelle, a senior at Dowling Catholic High, won the junior elite title at USA Triathlon's Junior Triathlon Festival for the second straight year. She finished the 750-meter swim, 20K bike ride and 5K run in 1:03:25, 44 seconds ahead of the next competitor. Tanelle was chosen to represent the U.S. at the junior world championships in Budapest on Sept. 12.

Evan Elig and Andrew Chun

LA JOLLA, CALIF. > Water Polo

Evan and Andrew, seventh-graders at The Bishop's School, were co-MVPs of the U-12 division at the Junior Olympics for the champion San Diego Shores A squad, which went 7--0. Evan led the team with 15 goals; in the final Andrew, a goalie, had 15 saves and allowed one goal.
