Things I Think I Think
SI's fearless NFL expert opines on all the latest news, buzz and inside information. This is just a taste of what you'll get online.
1 I think the Dolphins' release of quarterback Pat White(below), a 2009 second-round pick, is a great example of what happens when teams judge a player more by what he does in the winter than what he does in the fall. Miami fell in love with White's 2008 postseason at West Virginia, in which he passed for 332 yards and three touchdowns at the Meineke Car Care Bowl. But when they got him to camp, they found out he couldn't throw the ball much better than RB Ronnie Brown could.
2 I think that by cutting fullback Tony Richardson, the Jets start the season without their three most significant offensive leaders of 2009: Richardson and Alan Faneca and Thomas Jones, who were released by the Jets last spring. I keep hearing coach Rex Ryan cry out for leadership. Hard to find leaders when you keep eliminating them.
3 I think the weekend's most underrated roster move was Ravens FS Ed Reed going on the physically unable to perform list for the first six games after having off-season hip surgery.
