Stemming The Tide South Carolina cornerback Chris Culliver took the high road in taking down Alabama running back Trent Richardson during their game in Columbia, S.C., last Saturday. The Gamecocks' defense held the potent Crimson Tide rushing attack to 36 yards on 29 carries and knocked off the nation's top-ranked team 35--21, snapping 'Bama's 19-game winning streak (page 28).

Screen Gem Taking a pause during batting practice before their AL Division Series opener against the Twins on Oct. 6 in Minneapolis, the Yankees watched Phillies ace Roy Halladay celebrate his no-hitter with catcher Carlos Ruiz in Philadelphia (page 34). Halladay beat the Reds 4--0 in Game 1 of their NL Division Series, throwing only the second no-hitter in postseason history; the Yankees' Don Larsen hurled a perfect game against the Brooklyn Dodgers in the 1956 World Series.

Zebra Crossing Georgia Tech wide receiver Tyler Melton collided with field judge Billy Beckett while trying to haul in a pass against Virginia in Atlanta last Saturday. Melton didn't make this catch—or any other; the Yellow Jackets threw only six times—but Tech pulled out a 33--21 win on homecoming weekend.
