Smith, a 63-year-old high school health teacher, took national titles on back-to-back days at the USA Triathlon national championships in Tuscaloosa, Ala., with wins in the grand masters and 60--64 age group categories at the Olympic distance (2:20:01) and sprint distance (1:09:59). It was his seventh straight Olympic distance age-group national title.

Kalani Norris
PANGUITCH, UTAH > Volleyball
Kalani, a senior outside hitter at Panguitch High, broke the state alltime kills record (1,504) with 25 in a three-set win over Wayne. Through Sunday she had increased her total to 1,848 career kills, as the Bobcats extended their state-record winning streak to 63 matches. Last year Kalani helped Panguitch to the state Class 1A title and was MVP.

Aaron Lapkin
CHEYENNE, WYO. > Tennis
Aaron, a senior at Cheyenne East High, became the first Wyoming athlete to win four consecutive state tennis titles, taking three of his four matches in straight sets. He ended his high school career with 59 wins and just one loss. As a junior, Aaron won the USTA Intermountain sportsmanship award.

Danielle Muri
BILLINGS, MONT. > Soccer
Danielle, a senior at Billings West High, had a hat trick in a 5--1 win over C.M. Russell. Her second goal, the 71st of her career, set a Montana record. (She had 81 goals through Sunday.) Last year Danielle was an all-state selection in basketball (12.9 ppg, 7.7 rpg) and placed in four events at the state outdoor track and field meet.
Quenton James
SIOUX CITY, IOWA > Football
Quenton, a senior wide receiver and punter at Sioux City East High, broke the state Class 4A records in career receptions (169) and receiving yards (2,393), with 10 catches for 143 yards and two touchdowns in a 40--13 victory over Sioux City North. Through Sunday, Quenton had 178 catches for 2,458 yards. As a punter, he averages 37.4 yards per punt.
Laura Kraft
JAMESTOWN, N.D. > Golf
Laura, a senior at Jamestown High, won the two-day state Class A tournament by three strokes (shooting 147, three over par), to become the first North Dakota golfer to earn three Class A championships. She has been named to the all-state team for five consecutive years and won the state women's amateur tournament in July.
