Who's Hot
GOALS-A-PLENTY
With 10 goals in eight games, including four in a 6--1 win over Racing Santander last Saturday—after which he said, simply, "The goals were simple"—Cristiano Ronaldo (right) sits atop La Liga in scoring and leads first-place Real Madrid in shots (62) and assists (4).
MICHAEL YOUNG
After 11 playoffless seasons (1,508 games) as a Ranger, the third baseman hit the biggest home run of the ALDS, against the Rays, and mashed nine hits in the LCS, versus the Yankees. Oh, and he hasn't made an error since Aug. 29.
UW
A week after offing then No. 1 Ohio State, John Clay and Wisconsin rallied to beat No. 13 Iowa 31--30 in last Saturday's best game (which was given a 98 score on Thuuz.com, page 18). With no ranked foes remaining, the Badgers are back in the Rose Bowl hunt.
Who's Not
RUNNING ON EMPTY
A week after crashing in Charlotte and vomiting on the track—a fitting symbol of his frustration—then, a day later, running what he called his worst time ever (more than 22 minutes) in his 5K charity event, Kasey Kahne finally bolted Richard Petty Motorsports to join Red Bull Racing.
NUMBER ONE
First 'Bama. Then Ohio State. Now Oklahoma. The No. 1 team in college football stumbled for the third week in a row, as the BCS-leading Sooners were felled 36--27 by No. 11 Missouri on Saturday night. Careful, Auburn (BCS) and Oregon (AP).
THE OTHER UW
Ranked dead last among 120 D-I teams in total offense (225 yards per game, 29 yards behind No. 119), Wyoming has been outscored 100--26 in its last three games, all losses, and on Saturday blew a chance to upset BYU when a final drive fizzled on the 25-yard line.
SI NFL BROADCASTING INDEX
Seven weeks into the 2010 NFL season, broadcasting squawk boxes are starting to separate themselves from the bards of the booth. (And the NFL Network's Matt Millen and Joe Theismann haven't even started calling games yet....) Here, to enhance viewing pleasure, a sorted glance at whom to tune in—and out—for.
