Wendy Pavlus
TUPPER LAKE, N.Y. > Cross-country
Pavlus, a senior at St. Lawrence, defended her NCAA D-III title with a course-record and personal-best 20:49.3 in the 6K at the national championships, at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa. Her win capped an undefeated season against D-III competition in which she led the Saints to the Atlantic Regional title. Pavlus is also the national champion in the indoor 5K.
Slater Trout
LAHAINA, HAWAII > Stand-up Paddleboarding
Slater, a sophomore at Maui Prep, was named junior of the year by Standup Journal after his second straight podium finish at the Battle of the Paddle championships in Dana Point, Calif. Slater finished third in the elite-level five-mile race, in 1:00:39, behind men aged 27 and 33. He was also a member of the winning relay team.
Theresa LeBlanc
SHERWOOD, ORE. > Volleyball
Theresa, a senior setter at Sherwood High, took the Bowmen to the school's first 5A state title with a win over Liberty in the championship match. She had 58 assists (to set a school-record 676 for the season), eight digs and a perfect 24 for 24 serving record, and led a seven-point comeback to win the second set by serving six straight points and dishing five assists.
De'Angelo Henderson
SUMMERVILLE, S.C. > Football
De'Angelo, a senior running back at Summerville High, led the state in rushing yards with 2,345 yards on 251 carries and scored 27 touchdowns this season. An all-state selection as a junior, he was named class 4A running back of the year by the South Carolina Coaches Association and is a finalist for the state's Mr. Football award.
Haley Sims
DOWNERS GROVE, ILL. > Swimming
Haley, a senior at Downers Grove North High, became the third member of her family—with her father, David, and brother, Burke—to win a individual state swimming title, by taking the 200-yard individual medley and the 100 butterfly at the state finals. She also joined her sisters, Maddy and Gabby, and Allison Soper, to set a state record in the 200 medley relay (1:44.30).
Lucas Schawang
MOUND CITY, MO. > Football
Lucas, a junior quarterback at Mound City High, led the Panthers to their third straight eight-man football title, the state's first three-peat, over St. Joseph Christian 46--24. In the championship game Lucas ran for two touchdowns and threw for a third, rushing for 187 yards and passing for 73. He led the team in rushing and rushing touchdowns and was named all-state.
