ON THE NUMBER
Falling Up
After a mediocre year, golf made a bit of a rebound in autumn. According to Golf Datatech, rounds played were up 19.4% nationally in October compared with the same month a year earler. Overall rounds are down 1.8% for the year, but that's the equivalent of flat in the current economy. Things are looking robust on the retail side, too, as Golfsmith's November-December sales estimates indicate below.
Holiday Sales Projections
2 Million Balls
4 Million Tees
200,000 Clubs
25,000 Hats
80,000 Shirts
75,000 Gloves
