Texas hurt its chance for a No. 1 seed. The Longhorns' 70--67 loss at Nebraska last Saturday was their fourth this season, which includes another bad one at USC on Dec. 5. None of the other candidates for the top line have more than two losses. . . . Utah State has all but secured a bid. The Aggies' strength of schedule has been questioned all season, but their come-from-behind win at Saint Mary's on Saturday night solidified their at-large résumé should they falter in the WAC tournament .... Nobody has played better over the last month than Dwight Hardy from St. John's. The 6'2" senior guard has averaged 24.4 points during his last seven games, and he hit the game-winning layup in the Red Storm's last-second upset of Pittsburgh.
