Hilary Cordero

AMARILLO, TEXAS > Wrestling

Hilary, a senior at Caprock High, became the first wrestler in the history of the all-girls' University Interscholastic League to win four straight state titles when she defeated Ambre Reed of Liberty High 5--4 in the 102-pound finals to cap her undefeated season. Hilary's win led the Lady Longhorns to an eighth straight team title, and she was named the meet's most outstanding wrestler.

Kaito Streets

REDWOOD CITY, CALIF. > Fencing

Kaito, a junior at Sequoia High, won the U20 saber division at the Junior Olympics in Dallas, led his club to gold in the saber team event and coached Houston-based fencer Christofer Ahn to a win in the U17 saber division. A dual citizen of the U.S. and Japan, Kaito won the U16 Japanese national title in Tokyo in January. He is a member of the USA Cadet World Cup team.

Hallie Dewey

GREENWICH, CONN. > Squash

Hallie, a No. 1--draw senior at Deerfield Academy, had a 14--1 record going into the New England championships, with her only loss to Greenwich Academy's Nina Scott. Hallie then defeated Nina 18--16 in the final game to win the team title for Deerfield by one point and end Greenwich's streak of 14 straight titles. Hallie is ranked 10th among U19 girls by U.S. Squash.

Tim Wolchko

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. > Bowling

Tim, a junior at Egg Harbor Township High, won the state individual bowling championship using his signature backup two-handed style, throwing a strike on his last frame to edge Hopatcong High's Ray Stirrat 237--235. Tim averaged 243 over seven games in the state tournament. For his career he has bowled eight perfect games in casual and sanctioned play.

Kendra Stern

ALBUQUERQUE > Swimming

Stern, a senior at Amherst College, won the 100-, 200- and 500-yard freestyle events at the NESCAC championships for the fourth straight year and was named swimmer of the meet for the third year. Stern holds Div. III national records in the 100- (48.98) and 200-yard freestyle (1:45.31), has won seven individual NCAA titles and will compete for three more later this month.

Malcolm and Martin Smith

CLARKSVILLE, TENN. > Basketball

Malcolm and Martin, twin forwards at Clarksville Academy, were named Mr. Basketball finalists, the state's first brothers to do so in the same season. The Cougars went 5--23 the season before the Smiths arrived. With them, the team is 115--18, including a state title last year, and 31--1 through Sunday.
