Sam Anas

POTOMAC, MD. > Hockey

Sam, a senior center at Landon School, led the Bears to their first undefeated season and state title with two goals and two assists in an 8--2 win over DeMatha High. (His first goal came just eight seconds into the game.) Sam more than doubled the school record for goals in a season, with 49, including hat tricks in four straight games, and was named state player of the year.

Chelsie Schweers

CHESAPEAKE, VA. > Basketball

Schweers, a senior guard at Christopher Newport, led the Captains to their first Final Four berth while averaging a D-III tournament best 33 points per game. Through Sunday she leads the nation in scoring (25.9 ppg). This month she also became the school's alltime scoring leader (men's and women's) and the second NCAA woman to surpass 400 career three-pointers.

Ryder Nielsen

ST. JOHNS, ARIZ. > Wrestling

Ryder, a junior at St. Johns High, won his third straight state championship with a pin in the first period of the Division IV 112-pound finals. He started each of those title-winning seasons with a major injury sustained as a wide receiver during football season: a broken foot his freshman year, a torn ligament in his wrist last year and a broken leg this year.

Samantha Berggren

GRAND LAKE, COLO. > Nordic Skiing

Samantha, a senior at Middle Park High, won the state title in the individual-start 5K classic (17:01.1), following it up the next day with a second title in the mass-start 5K skate (17:14.8). In the fall Samantha won the 3A cross-country state championship, and last spring she won the outdoor title in the 400-meter dash. Next year she will run track for Auburn.

Nick Wrightson

LEXINGTON, KY. > Swimming

Nick, a senior at Henry Clay High, won his third straight state title in the 200-yard freestyle (1:40.42) and led off the meet-closing 400-yard freestyle relay with a leg of 46.19 to help the Blue Devils win the event over St. Xavier High by .28 of a second. Nick, who was named the male outstanding meet competitor, will swim for Ohio State next year.

Holly Ozanich

GREEN BAY > Indoor Track and Field

Ozanich, a senior at the University of Wisconsin--Oshkosh, won the shot put (50' 13/4") and repeated as 20-pound-weight throw champion (67'8") to earn 20 of her team's 46.5 total points and lead the Titans to their record seventh women's NCAA Division III indoor team title. Outdoors, she is the defending D-III hammer throw champion.
