Sophie Leclerc
BARRE, VT. > Ice Hockey
Leclerc, a graduate student and captain at Norwich University, led the Cadets to their first Division III title, in only the fourth year of the program, with two goals and an assist in a 5--2 win over Rochester Institute of Technology. She led the nation in scoring (54 points) and was named the Eastern College Athletic Association player of the year and an All-America selection.
Danny Wido
SHICKSHINNY, PA. > Archery
Wido, a senior at Pennsylvania College of Technology, won his fourth men's compound title (including outdoor competition) at the U.S. Collegiate Archery national indoor championships, with a combined score of 1,175 in two rounds of shooting. In September he won an individual silver medal and a team gold medal at the World University Archery Championships in China.
Erika Johnson
SEATTLE > Basketball
Erika, a 6'1" senior forward at Holy Names Academy, had 71 rebounds in four games at the state tournament to set a postseason record, as the undefeated Cougars won their first 3A state championship with a 57--48 victory over Prairie High. She was named the Gatorade girls' state basketball player of the year. Next year Erika will play for Berkeley.
Mike Meyers
WARWICK, R.I. > Wrestling
Mike, a senior at Warwick Veterans Memorial High, won his third straight New England championship and was automatically inducted into the New England Wrestling Hall of Fame. He defeated his final opponent in the 130-pound weight class 5--2. A week earlier Mike won his fourth state championship in leading his team to the title. His career record was 163--2.
Lane Jarred
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. > Gymnastics
Lane, a senior at Lawrence High competing for Arena Gymnastics, won her second straight all-around state title in Level 10 competition. She placed first in bars and balance beam, was second in floor and fourth in vault for a total of 38.0 points. In January she won the all-around title at the Star Struck Invitational in Atlantic City. Lane will compete for N.C. State in the fall.
Brad Fogal
SHARON, ONT. > Ice Hockey
Fogal, a senior at Adrian College, made 35 saves in a 3--1 win over Milwaukee School of Engineering to set a D-III record for career wins by a goaltender (89) and help the Bulldogs clinch their fourth straight Michigan Collegiate Hockey Association title. This year the team earned their first trip to the Frozen Four, and at season's end Fogal had extended his record to 93 wins.
