PIERRE MCGUIRE'S In the Crease

The top candidates for this year's Calder Trophy as the league's top rookie include a pair of centers (the Hurricanes' Jeff Skinner and the Sharks' Logan Couture) and defensemen (the Ducks' Cam Fowler and the Canadiens' P.K. Subban), as well as a goalie, the Blackhawks' Corey Crawford. It wouldn't be a surprise if Skinner, 18, were to beat them all—blessed with terrific puck control, he leads all rookies in scoring with 63 points... . The Red Wings have the talent to win a Stanley Cup, but they're not going anywhere this spring if they don't take better care of the puck. Coach Mike Babcock has made puck management a point of emphasis going into the playoffs because turnovers have been an unusually big problem for Detroit, which has the eighth most giveaways in the NHL.
