John Galloway

SYRACUSE, N.Y. > Lacrosse

Galloway, a senior goalkeeper at Syracuse, made 16 saves in a 13--11 defeat of Duke to set the Division I record for career wins (52) by a goalie. A 2010 All-America, he is the only starting goalie in NCAA history to win national titles as a freshman and sophomore. At week's end Galloway had led the top-ranked Orange to a 10--1 start.

Torie Bunzell

UTICA, ILL. > Softball

Bunzell, a senior righthanded pitcher at Quincy who leads Division II in strikeouts (340 through Sunday), threw a no-hitter and a perfect game in a doubleheader sweep of Rockhurst (1--0, 1--0). A week after that, Bunzell, a two-time All-America, tied the D-II record for strikeouts in a game, whiffing 23 in 16 innings in a 4--3 loss to Missouri S&T.

Mykkele Thompson

SAN ANTONIO > Track and Field

Mykkele, a senior at Stevens High, improved his national No. 1 mark in the long jump (all conditions) by ¼ of an inch with a winning jump of 25'2¼" at the Texas Relays in Austin. (He had leaped 25'2" in February to break his hometown's 49-year-old record.) A quarterback who has signed with Texas, he led Class 5A in rushing last year with 2,859 yards.

Naama Shafir

HOSHAYA, ISRAEL > Basketball

Shafir, a junior guard at Toledo, scored a career-high 40 points in a 76--68 victory over USC in the WNIT final to earn tournament MVP honors. An Orthodox Jew, Shafir received permission from her rabbi to compete on Saturdays but in observance of other Sabbath restrictions walks to every road game arena instead of taking the team bus.

Taylor Knoth

MILWAUKIE, ORE. > Racquetball

Knoth, a sophomore at Oregon State, won USA Racquetball's national intercollegiate men's singles title in Tempe, Ariz., to earn a spot on the adult U.S. national team. In 2010, Knoth won singles titles in the 18-U junior nationals and world championships, and was named All-America and USA Racquetball's male junior athlete of the year.

Addie Paris

KEARNEY, MO. > Powerlifting

Addie, a senior at Kearney High, defended her power-press title at the Natural Athlete Strength Association nationals in Oklahoma City with a hang-clean record for high school juniors and seniors in the 198-pound weight class (187). Last spring Addie was named all-state in the shot put. She will compete in track and field for Murray State in the fall.
