"The new equipment helps at this stage of my career, but it's not like I've seen a huge jump. Some of the ball-and-club combinations for the younger guys are crazy long, but it's not a big edge for me."

TECH TALK
OLD IS NEW
Titleist engineers wouldn't mess with icons like the Pro V1 and Pro V1x unless they knew they could make them better
IN JANUARY, Titleist introduced reengineered versions of the Pro V1 and Pro V1x. Here's a look at the details of the new Pro V1, which was altered with the aim of increasing spin while retaining distance. The new Pro V1x flies higher and farther off the driver but produces similar spin generation on iron shots.
A larger 1.530-inch core uses a new composition and molding process that makes it more uniform throughout. The intermediate layer, an ionomer resin, is precision matched in thickness and hardness to work with the core to optimize spin.
The surface has 352 dimples in five sizes that cover 82.7% of the ball. The coverage contributes to improved aerodynamics and more consistent, penetrating ball flight.
The dimple pattern is a spherically tiled tetrahedron, a series of adjacent triangles that create three axes of symmetry, which means the ball is symmetrical in any orientation.
