MIRACLE ON GRASS In one of the most dramatic finishes ever to an international soccer match, U.S. striker Abby Wambach thumped Megan Rapinoe's long cross past Brazil goalkeeper Andreia in the dying seconds of extra time to tie Sunday's Women's World Cup quarterfinal in Dresden, Germany, at 2--2 (page 12). In the ensuing penalty-kick shootout, U.S. keeper Hope Solo made a spectacular diving save and all five Americans—Shannon Boxx, Carli Lloyd, Wambach, Rapinoe and Ali Krieger—drilled their shots to seal the victory and set up Wednesday's semifinal with France.

DARKNESS ON THE EDGE OF TOWN A massive dust storm rolled in on an Arizona District 13 Little League All-Star Game between Chandler American and Chandler National South in Tempe on July 5. The storm, known as a haboob (stop laughing), measured some 60 miles wide and 4,000 feet high and developed quickly out of a thunderstorm. The teams and fans evacuated the field, and the game was completed two days later. Chandler American won 9--6.

EXIT, PURSUED BY SOME BULLS Revelers fled down Estafeta Street as several tons of beef gave chase during the traditional running of the bulls last Thursday in Pamplona, Spain. The nine-day event, part of the centuries-old San Fermin festival, draws a million visitors a year to the town and results in several hundred injuries annually. Since 1910, 15 fatalities have been recorded; there were none through Monday in this year's fiesta.
