BANG-BANG FINISH Ricky Stenhouse Jr. (6) won the U.S. Cellular 250 at the Iowa Speedway in Newton last Saturday after blowing an engine on the last lap, careening sideways toward the finish line and being bumped across by the fast-closing Carl Edwards (60). "It just worked out he hit us pretty square and shot us across the line," Stenhouse said of the frantic finish. It was the second Nationwide Series checkered flag of Stenhouse's career and his second at Newton.

OUT BY A WHISKER Phillies catcher Carlos Ruiz applied a tag to the goatee of Aubrey Huff as the Giants' first baseman tried to slide home on a bunt by pitcher Tim Lincecum during the fourth inning in San Francisco on Sunday. Though Huff failed to score, the Giants went on to win 3--1, avoiding a sweep in the head-to-head battle between the two division-leading clubs.
