LONDON BALLING The Horse Guards Parade has hosted countless processionals and military ceremonies, even the occasional monarch beheading. In 2012 it will be the site of the London Olympics beach volleyball competition, and on Sunday the U.S. pair of Jennifer Kessy (foreground) and April Ross gave it a test drive in the Visa FIVB Beach Volleyball International, where they fell to Brazil in the final.

WARMUP FOR THE CUP England flanker Tom Wood went high to win a lineout during a match against host Wales at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff last Saturday. Wales avenged a loss the previous week in London by defeating England 19--9; the friendlies were part of the teams' preparations for the Rugby World Cup, which runs from Sept. 9 to Oct. 23 in New Zealand.
