PUCKER PUNCH Moments after he pulled away from a break in which he apologized for a head butt by kissing his opponent on the cheek, Victor Ortiz (left) was on the receiving end of a left-right combo from Floyd Mayweather Jr. The dubious, but legal, hits sent Ortiz to the canvas at the end of the fourth round of their welterweight title fight last Saturday in Las Vegas (page 13). The knockout was Mayweather's 26th in 42 fights.

FIRST AMONG EQUALS The Ohio State defense was one step behind Miami running back Lamar Miller all last Saturday night in a matchup in South Florida of the two disgraced programs. Miller ran for 115 yards in the first quarter alone, and finished with 184, in the Hurricanes' 24--6 victory over the Buckeyes.
