TERESA NOYOLA
PALO ALTO, CALIF. > SOCCER
Noyola, a senior midfielder at Stanford, earned the 2011 Hermann Trophy as Division I's top female player after her header in the NCAA final gave the Cardinal a 1--0 win over Duke and its first national title, capping her four-year record at 95-4-4. A math and computational science major, Noyola also was named NSCAA's scholar of the year and was a first-round pick in the Women's Professional Soccer draft.
ROBBY CREESE
MOUNT AIRY, MD. > TRACK AND FIELD
Creese, a freshman at Penn State, ran a 2:19.53 in the 1,000 meters at the Nittany Lions Challenge—in his first individual collegiate appearance—to set American Junior and NCAA records. As a senior at Glenelg High, he won state titles in the indoor 800, 1,600 and 3,200 meters and in the outdoor 3,200. Creese also finished sixth in the mile at the Penn Relays last year and 11th at indoor nationals.
MARISSA JANNING
WATERTOWN, MINN. > BASKETBALL
Marissa, a 5'8" senior guard at Watertown-Mayer High, scored 32 points in a 71--47 win over LeSueur-Henderson to become the 10th girl in state history to break the 3,000-point mark. She holds the Minnesota record for career three-pointers and, through Sunday, was averaging 28.0 points to run her total to a career 3,218 with 420 treys. A two-time all-state selection, Marissa will play at Creighton next year.
BEN FERGUSON
BEND, ORE. > SNOWBOARDING
Ben, a junior at Mountain View High and a member of the U.S. Snowboarding rookie team, won gold in the halfpipe for Team USA and silver in the slopestyle at the inaugural Winter Youth Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria. A three-time national champion, he nailed an inverted flip called a Double Crippler in his 260-point winning run, and his 54-point run for the silver included a front 1080 spin.
JESSICA BEARD
EUCLID, OHIO > TRACK AND FIELD
Beard, a recent graduate of Texas A&M, won the Bowerman Award for the NCAA's top female athlete of 2011. A 16-time All-America, she became the third female in D-I history to sweep the indoor and outdoor 400-meter titles last spring, while anchoring 4 √ó 400-relay victories at both meets. Her indoor win (50.79) was the world's best in 2011. Beard is a two-time 4 √ó 400 gold-medal winner at worlds.
KOREY REICHARD
JACKSON, MICH. > BOWLING
Korey, a righthanded fifth-grader at Townsend Elementary, bowled an 800 series (265, 257 and 278) on Jan. 21 in singles league match play at AMF Summit Lanes, making him (at 10 years, 7 months and 23 days old) the youngest U.S. bowler to reach the 800 mark, pending certification from the U.S. Bowling Congress. Korey rolled his first 600 series in October and his first 700 series in November.
