DJOKER'S WILD Novak Djokovic tore off his shirt, flexed his muscles and bellowed to his support team at 1:37 a.m. on Monday after his epic five-set, nearly six-hour victory over Rafael Nadal in the Australian Open final in Melbourne (page 54). Djokovic defended his title and cemented his No. 1 ranking with his seventh straight win over Nadal, the world's No. 2.

PAGING STEVEN SPIELBERG...Under a ceiling that loomed like a hovering spaceship, Mary Saxer hit the bar during the women's pole vault competition at the U.S. Open Track and Field meet, which kicked off the Olympic track and field season, at Madison Square Garden in New York City last Saturday (page 32). Saxer finished tied for fourth in a field of six with a best vault of 13'10".

NIGHT FLIGHT Shaun White won the gold medal in superpipe at X Games 2012 in Aspen on Sunday with a perfect score of 100 in the men's final, nailing his signature double McTwist 1260 and unveiling a frontside double cork 1260. It was the fifth straight year that White had won the X Games superpipe competition.
