FACES IN THE CROWD

HALEY CROUSER

GRESHAM, ORE. > TRACK AND FIELD

Haley, a junior at Gresham High, set a high school girls' javelin record with a throw of 181'2" at the Aloha Relays in Beaverton, Ore. The defending 6A titleholder, Haley comes from a throwing family: Her father, Dean, was the 1982 NCAA shot put and discus champion at Oregon; her older brother Sam set the boys' javelin record in 2010; and her cousin Ryan Crouser set the boys' national discus mark last spring.

ZACHARY OLSEN

CORDOVA, TENN. > GOLF

Zachary, a junior at Memphis University School, won the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley in Graniteville, S.C., by three strokes with a seven-under 209. He beat 53 of the world's top juniors for his first international title and rose to No. 11 among 18-and-under U.S. boys. In 2011 he won the Wally Tournament, which features the top 25 junior amateurs in Tennessee, and was the state's junior player of the year.

MEGAN WHITTLE

GLENWOOD, MD. > LACROSSE

Megan, a sophomore attacker at top-ranked McDonogh School (Owings Mills, Md.), scored a game-high seven goals in a 20--9 win over No. 2 Garden City (N.Y.) in the inaugural Maryland--New York Challenge. With the win, McDonogh extended the nation's longest active girls' lacrosse streak (now at 65)—while snapping Garden City's streak at 55. Megan was a 2011 Under Armour Underclassmen All-America.

RAYMOND BOZMANS

FORT COLLINS, COLO. > TRACK AND FIELD

Raymond, a senior at Fort Collins High, broke Colorado's 100-meter record with a 10.27 at the Dakota Ridge Invitational in Lakewood, the second-fastest wind-legal time in the nation this year. He also won the 100 at the Arcadia (Calif.) Invitational against a national field (10.41). Raymond has the top 200-meter time in the country this year (20.87) and the state's fastest 400 meters (47.79).

ANDREA CHIARADIO

PAWCATUCK, CONN. > SOFTBALL

Andrea, a junior at Stonington High, fanned all 21 batters in a 3--0 win over Norwich Free Academy to become the second softball pitcher in state history to throw a perfect game in which every out was a strikeout. A week later she threw a no-hitter, striking out 14 of 16 batters, and hit a home run in a 17--0 victory. A centerfielder last year, she is 4--1 with a 1.07 ERA in her first varsity season on the mound.

DYLAN FRITTELLI

PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA > GOLF

Frittelli, a senior at top-ranked Texas and the NCAA's No. 2--ranked golfer with 10 top 10 finishes in 13 events this season (including a shared win at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate), was named corecipient of college golf's Byron Nelson Award for outstanding academic and athletic achievement. A two-time All-America, Frittelli is a finalist for the 2012 Ben Hogan Award, given to the top U.S. college golfer.

LESSON IN FUTILITY

By finishing with 23 straight losses (three short of the 2010--11 Cavs' NBA record), coach Paul Silas's 7--59 Bobcats claimed the league's worst single-season winning percentage, .106, putting them near the bottom of a particularly pathetic class of North American pro teams. Here, the worst of the modern era's worst.
