NOT: KNOCK ON WOODS
After his first Tour win in 30 months, on March 25, Tiger Woods appeared ready for his comeback. Not so fast. Woods melted at the Masters, then missed the cut by a stroke at Quail Hollow last Friday. Said Tiger, "I know what I need to do. I just need more reps doing it."
HOT: LIGHTNING BOLT
Jamaica's Usain Bolt (below) warmed up for London with the year's best time in the 100 meters last Saturday: a blazing 9.82, .18 of a second ahead of the runner-up, countryman Michael Frater. Bolt set the world records in the 100 (9.58) and 200 meters (19.19) in Berlin in 2009.
NOT: AWFUL OFF-SEASON
Colorado State expels three players after a brawl. An Ohio State recruit decommits after a sex offender posts a photo of him and the player taken during a campus visit. Notre Dame's QB Tommy Rees (below) and Clemson's top WR are arrested. Can we start the games already?
HOT: CAP'N CRUNCHING
Derek Jeter, the Yankees' captain, leads the AL in batting at .397, and his 48 hits through Sunday are a big league best. (Plus, he's hit five homers.) The bad news? No team in major league history has won a World Series with a starting shortstop older than 37. DJ turns 38 on June 26.
NOT: LAMENTABLE LAMAR
These are terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days for Lamar Odom. The forward was deactivated by Dallas on April 9; he and wife Khloe Kardashian aren't renewing their reality show; and as the Mavs were swept by OKC, they told him he wouldn't be receiving a playoff bonus.
