SEATTLE'S BEST Watching hitters flail is nothing new for fans in the Pacific Northwest, but on Aug. 15 for once it wasn't the Mariners struggling. Seattle ace Felix Hernandez (page 30) struck out 12 in throwing the 23rd perfect game in major league history, against Tampa Bay. Hernandez exulted, but to the Rays it was been there, done that: Three perfectos have been tossed against them since 2009.

SUMMER SAULT It's still August, but for Antonio Brown the calendar might as well have flipped to September. In the Steelers' preseason game against the Colts the wideout capped a 57-yard catch-and-run with a regular-season-worthy flip into the end zone. Pittsburgh won 26--24, and in the process gave Indy rookie Andrew Luck a couple of welcome-to-the-NFL moments: the QB threw two picks.

NO BOY IS AN ISLAND Catcher Ataru Yamaguchi of Canada looked like the loneliest kid in Williamsport when Mexico celebrated a home run by Ramon Ballina in the Little League World Series last Friday. Yamaguchi got his chance to celebrate though: His team won the game 13--9. The final of the LLWS is on Aug. 26.
