NOT: TIME TO GO, T.O.
For the first time in 11 years, the Blue Jays' offense went nine games without once scoring more than four runs. Toronto's pitchers have the second-most walks in MLB (444). More T.O. woes: The Seahawks cut WR Terrell Owens on Sunday, perhaps ending the 38-year-old's NFL career.
HOT: CHASE IS ON
The Padres won't make the playoffs, but a season-high seven-game win streak has given life to San Diego. The star of the show? Third baseman Chase Headley, who's having a career year—and a monstrous August. The 28-year-old has 10 HRs this month, tied for the most in MLB.
NOT: JACKSON DIVE
Is it only the preseason? Yup. Is the Jaguars' defense still a problem? You betcha: Jacksonville has surrendered 1,245 yards in three games (along with 103 points) and given up 273 penalty yards—all AFC highs. The Jags also lost three DEs to injury last week against the Ravens.
HOT: KO AND BEHOLD
Fifteen-year-old Lydia Ko of South Korea on Sunday became the youngest LPGA Tour winner ever with her victory in the Canadian Women's Open in Coquitlam, B.C. She shot a final-round 67 to finish 13 under par and break the tour's previous age record, set by 16-year-old Lexi Thompson last year.
NOT: SOUR NOTES
College football starts Thursday. Cue the bands! But first, a sad trombone: Notre Dame RB Cierre Wood (below), suspended two games for rules violations; USC CB Isiah Wiley, declared academically ineligible; and Auburn center Reese Dismukes, suspended after his arrest for public intoxication.
