HOT: UP AND GOOD
NFL kickers were making an astonishing 92.3% of field goals (180 of 195) through Sunday—6.5 percentage points higher than after Week 3 in '11. At this rate kickers will beat the record of 84.5% set in '08. Several kickers are perfect thus far, led by the Giants' Lawrence Tynes, who is 10 for 10.
NOT: BUCS STOPPED
NL Central co-leaders on July 18, the Pirates have gone 24--37 since and may finish under .500 for the 20th straight season. Whom to blame? Well, here's every category in which Pittsburgh ranks 13th or worse in the NL: stolen bases, caught stealing, doubles, walks, hits, BA, OBP. Whew!
HOT: SUNSHINE GREAT
Number 4 Florida State stayed unbeaten with a 49--37 comeback win over 10th-ranked Clemson; Miami (3--1) beat Georgia Tech 42--36 in OT; and No. 11 Florida walked over Kentucky 38--0 (the Gators' first SEC shutout since '01) to set up a tilt with No. 3 LSU in two weeks at the Swamp.
NOT: SAINTS AIN'T
New Orleans is 0--3 for the first time since '07, after falling 27--24 in OT to the formerly winless Chiefs, a loss lowlighted by Drew Brees's 0-for-3 fourth-quarter passing. And it, uh, ain't getting easier: Three of the Saints' next four games are on the road, and two will be played in prime time.
HOT: SWEET CAROLINE
Caroline Wozniacki has had a rough year. She lost the No. 1 ranking last January and hadn't won a tournament in 2012 until she beat Estonia's Kaia Kanepi 6--1, 6--0 in 62 minutes in the KDB Korea Open finals. The win bumped her up to 11th on the money list, same as her WTA ranking.
