HOT: MAGIC MIKE
Twenty-one-year-old Mike Trout became the only rookie in MLB history to have 30 home runs and 40 steals in a season when he hit his 30th dinger on Sunday in a win over the Rangers. The Angels' CF leads the majors in stolen bases (48) and runs (127), and is second (first in the AL) in OPS+ (168).
NOT: TITAN DOWN
The Titans (1--3) are floundering in Mike Munchak's second year: Their -70-point differential is an NFL worst, and quarterback Jake Locker (above) reinjured his left shoulder (he's day-to-day). Then there's the schedule: Starting Sunday they have four games in 22 days.
Oregon (5--0) beat WSU 51--26; No. 14 Oregon State edged Arizona 38--35 win; and Washington (3--1) upset No. 8 Stanford 17--13 to move to No. 23. As for Northwestern? The Wildcats are 5--0 and are ranked (No. 24) for the first time since the end of 2008.
NOT: BUSCH BELEAGURED
Kyle Busch's worst season since '07 (one win; failed to make the Chase) rolls on: On Sunday at Dover, he led a race-high 302 laps, but had to stop for fuel in the closing stages (his third late-race glitch this season) and wound up seventh. Said Busch later, "It seems like Groundhog's Day this year."
HOT: COZY JOZY
Jozy Altidore netted his Dutch league--leading eighth goal in AZ Alkmaar's 3--3 tie with RKC Waawijk, extending AZ's home unbeaten streak to 26. The 22-year-old New Jerseyan, playing in his fourth country since 2008, added an assist for AZ, who'll play league-leading FC Twente on Oct 7.
