Moving Targets

TRANSFERS HAVE REACHED MASSIVE PROPORTIONS IN DIVISION I, WITH MORE THAN 400 PLAYERS CHANGING SCHOOLS LAST SEASON. THESE SECOND-CHANCE RECRUITS WERE SNAPPED UP BY TOP PROGRAMS—BUT NOT ALL OF THEM ARE BULL'S-EYE CHOICES TO LEAVE A BIG MARK IN THEIR NEW ROLES

1 RYAN HARROW

N.C. STATE > KENTUCKY

He reportedly out-played first-round draft pick Marquis Teague in practice last year; now, the 6'2" sophomore will run point for John Calipari's newest stars.

2 ROTNEI CLARKE

ARKANSAS > BUTLER

The 6-foot senior guard is one of the nation's best three-point shooters (43.8% in 2010--11), and he'll be key as the Bulldogs transition to the A-10.

3 ALEX ORIAKHI

UCONN > MISSOURI

The senior center brings national championship experience and bulk (6'9", 255 pounds) to a team that was one of the shortest in D-I last year.

4 TREY ZEIGLER

CENTRAL MICHIGAN > PITT

One of the MAC's top guards (15.8 ppg in 2011--12), the 6'5" junior left for a bigger stage after his father was fired as the Chippewas' coach.

5 MARK LYONS

XAVIER > ARIZONA

The fifth-year senior guard has plenty of talent and experience, but he also has a history of attitude problems and a tendency to take bad shots.

6 TRENT LOCKETT

ARIZONA ST. > MARQUETTE

The addition of the 6'4" senior, who scored 13.0 ppg for the Sun Devils last season, makes the Golden Eagles' backcourt one of the best in the Big East.

7 AARIC MURRAY

LA SALLE > WEST VIRGINIA

A former top 50 recruit, the 6'10" junior has talent (15.2 ppg, 2.3 bpg in 2010--11) and baggage. (He was charged with drug possession last December.)

8 LUKE HANCOCK

GEORGE MASON > LOUISVILLE

Adding a 6'6" junior swingman who is a deft passer (a team-leading 4.3 apg in 2010--11) to this loaded squad was a coup for coach Rick Pitino.

9 KHEM BIRCH

PITT > UNLV

The 6'9" sophomore blasted his Pitt teammates on the way out but will provide a shot-blocking presence for a deep Rebels frontcourt.

10 WILL CLYBURN

UTAH > IOWA STATE

Coach Fred Hoiberg rode a crop of transfers to a 23--11 record last year and this 6'7" senior guard (17.1 ppg, 7.8 rpg in 2010--11) is his latest high-impact import.

11 KEION BELL

PEPPERDINE > MISSOURI

One of the WCC's top scorers two seasons ago (18.9 ppg), the 6'4" guard adds depth to Mizzou's backcourt but must adjust to the tougher SEC.

12 EARNEST ROSS

AUBURN > MISSOURI

The 6'5" junior led his former Tigers in scoring (13.1 ppg) and rebounding (6.6 rpg), and he adds size to the backcourt after the graduation of four senior guards.

13 KORIE LUCIOUS

MICHIGAN ST. > IOWA ST.

The 5'11" point guard brings Final Four experience to the Cyclones, who are trying to reach consecutive NCAA tournaments for the first time in 12 seasons.

14 LARRY DREW II

UNC > UCLA

The 6'2" senior must shed his reputation as an unreliable point guard for UCLA to make it back to the Final Four for the first time in five seasons.
