It's Called Hockey. You May Have Heard of It While the NHL game remains on ice, pucks are still flying across the land. In Rosemont, Ill., on Nov. 20, Chicago Wolves defenseman Mark Matheson (25) hissed an errant shot past Milwaukee Admirals goaltender Jeremy Smith during their AHL game. The Wolves, in second place in the Midwest Division, defeated the fourth-place Admirals 5--3.

Photographs by Ken Regan/Camera 5

IN MEMORIAM Ken Regan Over five decades, from the 1960s to the 2000s, Regan photographed a vast array of subjects: athletes, film stars, rockers, politicians and soldiers, among many others. "I don't think there's been a photographer—ever—who had as varied a career," says Neil Leifer, his longtime friend and SI colleague. "Ken was truly a Renaissance man." Regan, who died on Sunday, shot seven SI covers and hundreds of photos for the magazine, including ones of headliners such as Muhammad Ali, Jim Brown, Roger Staubach, Joe Frazier (swinging at Ali in 1975), Mike Tyson (with Cus D'Amato), Gale Sayers and Bart Starr (15, with Vince Lombardi, in glasses).

Notre Dam USC quarterback Max Wittek (13) called his own number twice, on first- and second-and-goal, only to run into a wall formed by Manti Te'o (5) and the Irish defense late in the fourth quarter of their game at the L.A. Coliseum last Saturday. Wittek threw an incomplete pass on fourth down, and Notre Dame hung on to win 22--13, finishing the season 12--0 and securing a spot in the BCS championship game on Jan. 7.
