HOT: IN ERNST
Rookie Derek Ernst, 22, won the Wells Fargo Championship on Sunday (and earned $1.2 million), beating David Lynn in a playoff. "Money is money, it will come and go," said Ernst (above). "I want to play out here, so that's the best part."
NOT: ALL WET
Boca Juniors drew 1--1 with River Plate in Buenos Aires on Sunday, leaving Boca winless in 11 straight. Play was halted briefly after fans at Boca's La Bombonera stadium set off fireworks and security responded with water hoses.
HOT: CARDS WITH A K
St. Louis (20--11) ripped off six straight wins last week and has the most road victories (13) of any club in MLB. The Cardinals' 3.09 ERA is tops in the NL, and righty Lance Lynn is 5--0 with 39 strikeouts in 36 innings.
NOT: DON'T SHOOT, J.R.
He's averaging 15.5 points and his team advanced, but Knicks guard J.R. Smith is shooting just 36.4% in the postseason. That's the worst of any player (averaging more than 25 minutes) whose team is still alive.
HOT: MIGGY GETTIN' JIGGY
In his last 18 games, the Tigers' Miguel Cabrera—the AL's batting (and hits and total bases) leader and reigning MVP—is hitting .431 with five homers, 23 RBIs and an OPS of 1.228. Oh, and Detroit (19--11) is atop the Central Division.
