Until he took the field (or, as he called it, "the pitch") at the 49ers' rookie minicamp last Friday, British discus thrower Lawrence Okoye (12th at the 2012 Olympics) had never played American football. But the 6'6", 304-pound son of Nigerian immigrants turned heads with a 4.78 40-yard dash at last month's super-regional combine at Cowboys Stadium. The Niners, who signed Okoye, 21, as a free agent on April 27, see him as a 3--4 defensive end.
