MATT ELLIOTT | Rock Hill, S.C. | Track and Field

Elliott, 27, passed seven runners in the last lap of the 1,500-meter final at the USA Track and Field national championships in June to finish fourth, in 3:45.85. A month later he qualified as an alternate for worlds in Moscow with a personal record of 3:36.88 in Bottrop, Germany. He then bested that by .2 seconds in Ninove, Belgium. A teacher of high-need elementary students, Elliott's best mile time in high school was 4:42.

JULIA ROY | Crestwood, Ky. | Swimming

Julia, a rising eighth-grader at East Oldham Middle School who competes for the Lakeside Swim Team, won the 11- and 12-year-old girls' 100-meter butterfly at the Kentucky long-course championships in 1:03.92 last month, breaking the state record set by Olympian Mary T. Meagher in 1977. Julia earned six other medals at the meet. In January, as a 12-year-old, she beat high schoolers to win the 100 fly at the Oldham County championships.

KRIS BRYANT | Las Vegas | Baseball

Bryant, who recently finished his junior year as a third baseman at the University of San Diego, won USA Baseball's Golden Spikes award, given to the nation's top amateur player. He had an NCAA-leading 31 homers, 80 runs, 66 walks, 187 total bases and .820 slugging percentage while batting .329. Selected by the Cubs in June with the No. 2 pick in the MLB draft, Bryant played his first pro game for the Class A Boise Hawks in July.

AURIEYALL SCOTT | Greenbelt, Md. | Track and Field

Scott, a Central Florida senior this fall, won the 100 meters at the World University Games in Kazan, Russia, in 11.28. She also helped the U.S. earn silver in the 4 √ó 100 relay. The Conference USA female athlete of the year, Scott became the Knights' first NCAA champion in any sport, with a 7.13 in the indoor 60 meters in March. She ran a personal-best 10.96 to reach the finals at the USATF national championships in June.

JULI WEBER | Valley View, Pa. | Softball

Juli, an outfielder and recent Tri-Valley High grad, hit .671 and had a 1.098 slugging percentage with 37 runs scored, 30 stolen bases and 27 RBIs to earn Pennsylvania Class A player of the year honors. In four years she had a .608 batting average and struck out just once, during her freshman season. She was also named All-State as a point guard for the Bulldogs' state-title-winning basketball team. Juli will attend South Florida.

KELSEY KARANGES AND RYAN MAY

Fort Worth, Texas; McDonald, Tenn. | Equestrian

Kelsey, who rides for Oakridge Equestrian Team, and Ryan, riding for Ocoee Equestrian Team, became the first co-champions at the Interscholastic Equestrian Association's National Western Finals, held in Oklahoma City. Kelsey was first in horsemanship and sixth in reining; Ryan took third in both events.
