Pierre Byrne | South Bend | Football

Pierre, a senior slot- and cornerback at Culver Military Academy, had both TDs in a 14--7 win over 2012 Class 1A state champs Lafayette Central Catholic. Three weeks earlier he scored four ways (rushing, receiving, interception return and punt return) and led the Eagles in tackles (six) in a 36--29 win over Tippecanoe Valley. Pierre will play lacrosse at Notre Dame.

Alicia (Tornado) Black | Boca Raton, Fla. | Tennis

Tornado, 15, a homeschooled sophomore, defeated four opponents in straight sets as an unseeded wild card to reach the U.S. Open junior finals, where she fell to No. 2 seed Ana Konjuh of Croatia 3--6, 6--4, 7--6. Tornado jumped from 72nd in the International Tennis Federation junior girls' rankings to No. 22. In May she won the Delray Beach ITF girls' title.

Josh Poole | Crawford, Texas | Skeet Shooting

Poole, a freshman at Trinity, shot the first perfect 500--500 in Collegiate Skeet Junior World Championship history, earning four gold medals and winning the collegiate division. At 18, he also became the youngest shooter to get a perfect score. Last year Poole was the National Skeet Shooting Association's top-ranked junior.

Molly Kreklow | Delano, Minn. | Volleyball

Kreklow, a senior setter at Missouri, averaged 12.8 assists per set in three matches at the Rice Invitational, earning tournament MVP honors for the third time this season. She was also named MVP at the Yale Invitational (12.4 assists) and at the Tiger Invitational (13.3). Kreklow led the nation with 12.8 assists for the 11--0 Tigers at week's end.

Stephen Wargo | South Euclid, Ohio | Marathon Swimming

Wargo, 55, an inventory systems developer, became the 16th and oldest person (and the first Ohioan) to swim across Lake Erie, from Long Point, Ont., to Freeport Beach, Pa. (24.3 miles). Swimming in 68º to 72º water, he finished in 19:07 despite a 15-mph headwind and three-foot waves. Wargo swam the 10-mile Strait of Gibraltar in 2008.

Caren Guyett | Yorktown Heights, N.Y. | Surf Livesaving

Guyett, 24, a Fordham grad student who has lifeguarded in Barnegat Light, N.J., for the past six summers, won the American Ironwoman title at the U.S. Lifesaving Association nationals in Manhattan Beach, Calif. The 950-meter course included a 250m swim and a 400m paddleboard leg interspersed with beach sprints of 150, 50 and 100 meters.
