Makena Morley | Bigfork, Mont. | Cross-country

Makena, a Bigfork High junior, won her third consecutive Class B state championship (16:35.31), shattering the all-class record by nearly 15 seconds. In September she took a third straight Mountain West Classic title (16:43.42). A two-time Gatorade runner of the year, Makena is Montana's second high school girl to break 17 minutes for three miles.

Troy Flutie | Natick, Mass. | Football

Troy, a senior quarterback at Natick High, threw for 391 yards and five scores and ran for 192 yards and three more TDs to beat Walpole High 56--55 in overtime. He has thrown for 2,360 yards and 36 TDs for the 8--0 Redhawks. Troy has verbally committed to Boston College, the alma mater of his father, Darren, and his Heisman Trophy--winning uncle, Doug.

Jessica Yuen | Bolingbrook, Ill. | Golf

Jessica, a Neuqua Valley High (Naperville) sophomore, rallied from a five-stroke deficit in the Class 2A state championship at Randall Oaks Golf Club (West Dundee) to win by four with a two-under 142. Last summer Jessica took the Illinois Junior Golf Association's amateur title and placed third at the AJGA Midwest Players Championship.

Jesse Little | Charlotte | Auto racing

Jesse, a Bandys High (Catawba) junior, earned NASCAR K&N Pro Series East rookie of the year honors. He finished ninth in the standings, with four top fives, six top 10s and a third at Langley Speedway for 92 rookie points in 14 races, edging the runner-up by three. Jesse's father, Chad, won the award in the West region in 1986.

Katie Vanden AvondDe Pere, Wis. | Soccer

Vanden Avond, a junior forward at St. Norbert College, scored the only goal, her 32nd this year, in a victory over Grinnell to help the Green Knights clinch their ninth Midwest Conference championship. She set the conference record for goals in a season and is the active NCAA all-divisions leader in career goals with 86, including 16 hat tricks.

David and Daniel MewbornVacaville, Calif. | Football

David and Daniel, twins and senior running backs, led Vacaville High to a 63--45 win over Napa High in a rivalry that dates to 1933. David had five rushing TDs and an 80-yard TD reception; Daniel scored on a 51-yard run and a 75-yard catch.
