What's That Supposed To Be?

Plenty of art devoted to sports popped up on the Web in 2013, giving us everything from NFL logos reimagined as Disney creatures to minimalist renderings of major league stadiums. But the coolest site has to be lessonsinsport.tumblr.com, which portrays iconic sports figures as their signature trait. (Prints are for sale on the site.) For instance, a navy do-rag on a silver background? Deion Sanders. A pair of nails on a field of maroon? Lenny Dykstra. Take a look at the five works to the left and see if you can figure out whom they represent. (Answers are below.)

A. AL DAVIS; B. BOBBY KNIGHT; C. JOHN STOCKTON; D. BARRY BONDS; E. KAREEM ABDUL-JABBAR

Tour de Lead Graffiti

Each morning during the Tour de France, members of the Lead Graffiti printmaking collective gathered to watch that day's stage. They took note of every salient breakaway, pratfall and Phil Liggett bon mot, then spent the rest of the day producing a broadside that captured the action. The results—visible at leadgraffiti.com—are like the peloton, a riot of shapes and colors. The designers call what they do "endurance letterpress," for they repeat the routine 23 days in a row and, like the Tour itself, scrupulously post total elapsed time.
